Songs written or inspired by a woman in the composers’ life have been a major part of the world of music going back to the classical era. During the 1960s songwriters such as Neil Diamond (Sweet Caroline), Roy Orbison (Oh, Pretty Woman), Eric Clapton (Layla) and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Suite: Judy Blue Eyes) continued this tradition and in doing so were responsible for some of the most famous rock songs of the decade. This lecture will explore the backstories behind the songs. Presenter, Richard Knox
