Katharine Hepburn was a leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years. She came from a well-off family in Connecticut that was involved with social causes like women’s suffrage and birth control. Educated at Bryn Mawr, Hepburn began her acting career on Broadway. Then went from new star to box office poison during the 1930s. She returned to Broadway for The Philadelphia Story and had a successful return back to Hollywood. She is the only person to win four competitive acting Oscars.
